Rave Harps at the Vienna Virtuoso Festival, 2018

Here is some inspiring news from Katryna Tan, our partner in Singapore and Malaysia. Her Rave Harps studios are a wonderful example of how successfully you can combine harp distribution and service, with concerts and teaching work. Katryna has also written an excellent book for harp students (Unleash the Musician in You), and has even directed a series of most impressive harp operas for her pupils (most recently, at the World Harp Congress in Hong Kong 2017).

Kaitlyn Tan won the overall Best Performance Award in Vienna, on top of her first prize in the Vienna Virtuoso Festival Competition (junior category)

This year, some of her students participated in the Vienna Virtuoso Festival 2018 competition. This is a collaboration with the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival, which this year saw sixty talented young musicians from Singapore visit the international musical hub of Vienna. This included playing at the festival winners’ concert – which featured a further three prizes, for the best performances there. Bravo to ten-year-old harpist Kaitlyn Tan Winnie, who won one of these prizes!

The young artists were also given workshops and masterclasses during their trip – a special highlight being a masterclass with Anneleen Lenaerts of the Vienna Philharmonic. They also enjoyed a special private tour of the Vienna State Opera. All in all, it was a great experience for teachers and students, with the chance to immerse themselves in Viennese music, culture, food and architecture. Congratulations to Katryna and her class!
