Jakez’s Minstrel: now available to download!

All instruments have their pieces that almost everybody learns. On the harp, one of these is undoubtedly “The Minstrel’s Adieu to his Native Land”, a Welsh theme and variations by the famous John Thomas (1826 – 1913), erstwhile harpist to Queen Victoria.

Another fun fact that most of you know: Camac President Jakez François is also a harpist – and he particularly loves to play jazz. Many years ago now, he was invited to perform for the opening of the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff, and was thus inspired to create a jazzy take on The Minstrel’s Adieu for the occasion.

Ever since, Jakez has been asked to publish his arrangement. He never had time, but the recent lockdown in France saw him confined to his home for the longest time in years. And so… he got this done!

You can now download “The Minstrel’s Suicide” from the Camac webshop. Here is also a vintage video of Jakez performing it.
